I started All'Scone when I first moved to London as a rebellion against the masses of cupcakes that seemed to be taking over the world at the time. I wanted to offer something comforting and nostalgic, food that would make people feel warm and fuzzy inside, without all of the fuss.
I had been baking scones since an early age and my Cherry and Almond ones were a firm family favourite, and so I chose to whack in some other of my favourite flavours into the humble scone and see what happened. Off I trotted to my first East London foodie market, wicker baskets in tow packed with sweet and savoury scones - what was I thinking? A Pesto and Chorizo scone? Honey and Mustard? Surely punters will chortle in my face at such daring ideas. But no, they merely beamed with delight with their first mouthful, and All'Scone was born.
The markets in East London became All'Scone's home, with me and my baskets zipping from schoolyards to popups every weekend. New flavours were recommended and tried by the regulars, and before long there were enough recipes to fill a book. Erm, how about a book deal? What, sorry? A recipe book full of sweet and savoury scone recipes, with a soundtrack for each recipe to listen to in the kitchen? Sounds like fun, let's do it! The Little Book of Scones was published in July 2013, by Random House. Hurrah!
Turning vegan a few years ago introduced the challenge of veganising all of my old recipes, and it has definitely been an adventure! I now offer almost of the old favourites, plus a few new ones, as vegan scones - yep everything at All'Scone is now vegan! Have a look at some of the flavours I offer and see which ones take your fancy.
